How do I soften a wool/acrylic blend blanket that has gone hard after having oil/petrol spilt on it?

I need an Australian product to soften a blanket that has gone hard. Not sure if I need borax, washing soda, epsom salts or any other product. How do I soften a wool/acrylic blend blanket that has gone hard after having oil/petrol spilt on it?
I think you maybe be out of luck. The petrol will work to break down (dissolve) the acrylic, making it stiff like you said. I don't think there is any way to reverse this. If you keep it in a clothes dryer on low heat, maybe that will work the fibers enough to soften them a little. But it probably won't get back to how it was before.

Good luck!
