If so, how come?
Thanks!
Just noticed my oil pressure is running a little high is allDoes oil pressure in engines tend to run a little higher in the winter?
Initially, because oil is a very viscous (thick) fluid, when cold, it will take 'more pressure' to force it thru the engine's oil galleries. As the engine warms up it will return to normal.
Likewise in the summer, you might notice the engine oil pressure to be less when the engine is hot as the liquid oil is thinner.
Use the oil that your manufacturer recommends for your automobile in your climate.Does oil pressure in engines tend to run a little higher in the winter?
In theory the answer is Yes, but the oil pressure relief valve should compensate for the the oil being thicker in the cold weather, but you are better to follow the recommended grade of oil for you car.
a high volume oil pump will keep it up where it belongs.let your eng warm slowly or to high will not be good.dry bearings can clog ports and journals. in freezing temps only let your eng run a little in the am then shut it for a few.then let it warm on the next start ~ no reving.
yes when the oil is closed it becomes alot more thicker and tends to move slower, but when the car warms up your oil pressure should go back to normal.
yes...normally the colder the time of year the different VI number of oil is needed...thinner for cold/thicker for hot.
only when cold...should be same when hot,,,i use 5w40 in winter and 10w 40 summer
Yes oil thickens when cold try it leave a can 10w30 outside 20 below and then pour some out like molasses
