Is there any way to clean the burnt oil from the underside of my skillet?

I have an awesome skillet that has a design painted on the sides and bottom, but over time it has gotten stained with grease. Is there anything that can remove these brown, burnt stains? Is there any way to clean the burnt oil from the underside of my skillet?
If its a ceramic skillet you may want to use a green scrubby pad with a bit of commet cleanser, although soaking it in warm water with baking soda can also work. any kind of acidy will break up grease, depending on the age of the grease burn. If its stainless steal use a cleaner designed for stainless steal. Is there any way to clean the burnt oil from the underside of my skillet?
Place the skillet in a plastic bag (sealed shut) and also a container with a half cup of ammonia. Place somewhere it will not be disturbed and allow to sit overnight. I always do that with my cast iron pans about once a year. Wash after you remove the pan from the bag. Since your stains are on the bottom, you may want to turn the pan bottom side up in the bag.
try oven cleaner.
