What are the proportions of oil and turpentine to use for oil painting media ?

There is many combinations and they depend on what effect you want. There is a rule fat over lean.. So when you start your painting use more turpentine and as you progress you can use more oil. I like to use about 2 parts of oil to turpentine, but I adjust to needs. With experience you will find the mixture that fits you the most. What are the proportions of oil and turpentine to use for oil painting media ?
there are many combinations. 1 part linseed or stand oil and 3 parts turpentine is a good one.

there is also 1 part linseed, 1 part darmar varnish and 1 part turpentine is another.

try both and choose your preference. What are the proportions of oil and turpentine to use for oil painting media ?
experiment
Not.

Don't mix oil and turpentine to make medium. Use ready made medium.

How to clean stubborn cooking oil stains from oil cover?

Any suggestions on how to remove the stubborn oil stains on the oil covers (the metalish cover u place on top of pan when cooking to avoid spluttering all around). I've tried soaking in hot soapy water over night and still no change...How to clean stubborn cooking oil stains from oil cover?
Run them through a dishwasher.=)How to clean stubborn cooking oil stains from oil cover?
I do not like to advertise brand names usually, but to me, Cif lemon spray is the best thing sliced bread!

When I moved in to my flat the previous tennant obviously liked to fry - and not clean! The kitchen door was covered in old fat, and all the surfaces too.

I started with sugar soap but that did not do it. In frustration I picked Cif up and it cut through with no effort. Half a door took 3 days of scrubbing and rubbing and washing etc.

The second half with Cif took minutes!

The metallic cover is called a splatter platter!
Wow, they must be some pretty intense stains.

You many need a heavy duty cleaner to remove these stains. Try this http://frigidaire.stores.yahoo.net/16sts… . It's designed for stainless steel appliances, but I think if you spray and let sit, this cleaner (which is non-toxic) will do a better job of breaking down those stains.

If that works, you may want to take measures to protect the shine. This polish http://frigidaire.stores.yahoo.net/nonam… will help maintain the look and shine of all your steel pots and pans.

I hope this helped and good luck!
Dampen it with water, then sprinkle baking soda on it and wipe it off with a sponge soaked in vinegar. You can add more vinegar as needed.
Try using ';Jif '; %26amp; scrub on it. I find it very useful, use it to remove anything oily %26amp; dirty.
noxon or an y other metal polish should do it. you can also use oven cleaner, but i don't think it'll restore the shine.

Do oil prices put the nail in the coffin of GM and big pickup trucks?

GM stocks have dropped 38% since last year, a 30 yr low.

It's been 35years since the Arab oil embargo and still, the management at GM (up till recently) thinks that there's a market for huge gas gusslers!

Is their marketing plan just a loser? Do they HAVE an intelligent marketing plan?Do oil prices put the nail in the coffin of GM and big pickup trucks?
Big pick-up trucks? Yes, for now. GM? Not yet. GM could be 5-10 years away from climbing back on top of the world car market. You may have heard that Honda now has an Accord that runs on water, and a bunch of brain-dead Holly-weird pseudo-ecologists are leasing some of them...Well, GM has had a fleet of busses in DC that have been running on water for three years. The Chevy Volt will be released in 2010, and GM is predicting the release of their first fuel-cell powered vehicle in 2012. Yes, Honda got the first one out, but they didn't do nearly as much R%26amp;D as GM has already done, so don't be surprised if their eco-friendly Accords are full of bugs that will take several years to work out. GM is playing it very close to the vest because they want to be sure that their first release is a good one.

P.S.: Yes, it has been 35 years since the Arab oil embargo, but up until the past year pick-up trucks were still the #1 seller in the U.S., except for a couple of instances where SUVs were outselling pick-up trucks. So no, their marketing plan was not a loser by a long-shot -- they simply churned out what Americans wanted. Now that gas prices have shot up, they have to scale back on pick-ups and SUVs. Don't blame GM, blame the American consumer who still doesn't have to pay as much for a gallon of gasoline as they do in Canada or Europe...

By using just jack stands and what not. I dont have a car lift to change it.Whats the easiest way to get to the oil filter on a 2002 pontiac sunfire?
use an oil filter remover..its available on most auto shops..try to borrow some..LOLWhats the easiest way to get to the oil filter on a 2002 pontiac sunfire?
get car up...silde under it... remove with oil filter wrench let drain ....trick wet new oil filter seal with oil before screwing it back helps when removing next time and if you want to do work on your car it best to get a book about it any parts store can help you with everything you need even more info on how its done and what you need
if you can just take a screw driver and a hammer and stab it to turn the old one and just install the new one as tight as you can get it, also k%26amp;n makes a oil filter that has a nut on the end for installation with a socket that makes it easier but there kind of expensive at about 11$

What oil is better for a 130k miles car engine?

I have a '97 Civic, with 130,000 miles. The manual recommends a 5W-20 oil, but my car is 12 years old, and with many miles on it, and I wonder if I should use the same type of oil, or if it is better for the engine to use a heavier oil, like 5W-30, or other type of oil, and if so, which one is better?

Thanks in advance for your advice,What oil is better for a 130k miles car engine?
Stick with the recommended oil. The only reason to change is if you notice your car is using more oil or if the oil pressure light is coming on occasionally indicating a drop in oil pressure that could be from worn engine parts.

    Thicker is Better Myth

The reason that oil viscosities have gotten thinner is because bearing clearances have become smaller. Using thicker oils will interfere with oil flow and the oil pressure will increase. In a worn engine it may be okay to increase the viscosity of the oil because the bearing clearances have become larger.

In fact I use Mobil 1 0W30 in my '96 Accord even though 5W30 is recommended in the owner's manual and since switching to it I do notice an increase in fuel economy.

If you really want to know what is best then get your oil analyzed and see what the lab recommends. http://youroil.net/single_sample_kit.htm鈥?/a>What oil is better for a 130k miles car engine?
If your engine is still in good shape, don't change. The only change I would recommend is to synthetic oil. Stay with the 5w20 as recommended by the engine maker. That engine is engineered to operate with that viscosity and will not be as efficient with a thicker oil.
call a local honda dealer and ask their opinion.

use 5-20w. don't switch if the engine is fine.

also, if its used synthetic, get a synthetic 5-20w for high mileage cars (ie, castrol)

but if honda says no synthetic, don't switch now, the engine is too used to normal oil.
i would use a little heavier oil specially in the summer. a heavier oil won,t break down so fast in the heat. my car has 129,000 miles and i use high mileage oil. myself i use 10w30 year round. i just got done changing my oil.
Good question. You could go with a heavier oil without hurting the engine. But if you would like the same fuel economy i would stick with the 5w20.
If it were mine Id use 5-30 or even 10-30 especially if your in a warm climate. If you got 130k out of the car with 5-20, why switch?
Always stay with the recommended oil. If you bought the car new... stay with same brand.
use high milage oil valvoline makes one. as for the weight it makes a diffrence on your climate.

If Iran is the 2nd biggest supplier of oil in the world? Why is the country so poor?

I can't understand that a country with so much oil is so poor. I've heard that they outsource oil refinement to other countries, and the goverment subsidicies the cost of fuel. I can't understand why they wouldn't refine the oil themselves? If Iran is the 2nd biggest supplier of oil in the world? Why is the country so poor?
First, they aren't that poor, per capita is about 9,000. Its not comparable to western countries with an average of 30,000. but health care is cheap and education (up to higher education) is free and with subsidies gas prices are low, this gives a relief.

beside that Iran is a very cheap country,(to paint you a picture, you can get a sandwich for as little as 15 cents) meaning that even with a low income people can buy a lot.

and the reason for oil import, Iran has some oil refineries but their capacity has remained or even decreased because of sanctions. other countries are not allowed to share their refinery tech with Iran. in addition to that there was mass illegal export of gas to neighboring countries (where smugglers could sell the gas for a higher price) this has been partly addressed by giving drivers a limited amount of gas.If Iran is the 2nd biggest supplier of oil in the world? Why is the country so poor?
It's NOT SO POOR. Go and see for yourself. And plus it has suffered from many conflicts and situations.
Iran is the 4th largest exporter of oil in the world, worth over $ 60 billion a year.

At over $10,000 per capita GDP (PPP), it is not one of the poorest nations, but islamic laws and corrupt governments make economic progrress slow.
Iran uses a great deal of their oil domestically. Many of there power plants are oil powered which means they can not export and sell the oil they produce. Also, Iran's oil fields are government owned. THis means that the Government decides where the money is going. THe money is unevenly distributed and many citizens do not see the money. This happens all over the middle east and oil producing nations. Saudi Arabia is another where ths happens. Prince Saud is one of the wealthiest men in the world yet Saudi arabia is relatively poor

How often do you need to change the oil in a car?

My dad, who bought a new Saab 900 in 1994, claims he's never had to change the oil. I imagine it's been done a few times at services/MOTs, but is this normal? I'd have guessed it's best to change every 6 months? How often do you need to change the oil in a car?
3000 miles or every 3 months..haven't you ever seen a jiffy lube ad????How often do you need to change the oil in a car?
Every 3000 miles or 3 months, whichever comes first.
I change the oil in mine every 6-7000 miles. Assumming your dad never goes anywhere.. I would still say he's pushing his luck!
I would say every 6mths change oil and filter got to do both at same time car will run very good for a lot of years
U should change the oil every 3000 miles to 4000 miles to be on the safe side.
It depends a lot on what kind of driving you do. The more city driving and stop-and-go traffic, the more often you need to change.

I'd say check every month or every 1,000 miles. If the oil is very dark brown (burnt chocolate) or black, change it. Also check its texture. If it feels gritty, get your car to the shop, pronto.
what your dad says may be true, when he purchased the car it may have come with a life time oil change, he most likely

takes it in every 5000-7500 miles for a change, some of the synthetic oils say you can get up to 15000 between oil changes. hope this answers your question
As often as the manufacturer recommends, depending on the type of use the vehicle gets. Typically for harder driving that would be every 3,000 miles or every 3 months, whichever occurs first.. No, it's not normal and was probably done every time it went in for routine service, since it would void the warranty if it wasn't done.
    Depends on your driving,

    I'll say every 6000 miles,

but you need to check regular.
Yes your right, 6 months or 6,000 miles is the norm..

not changing oil will cause premature failure of the engine unit as the oil filter becomes clogged and can't filter harmful metal particals away which in turn damaged bearing surfaces etc...ps, when selling the car dont brag about the lack of oil changes!
Every 10,000mi for a petrol engine and about 6000mi for a diesel is standard.
    every 3000-5000 miles
Manufacturers recommend every 7500miles for normal driving and every 3000 miles for severe service. Most people's driving habits fall into the second recommendation. But, depending on the oil used, there are other possibilities. For example, I used synthetic oil from day one on a 1997 Dodge Avenger. I changed the oil about once a year. The transmission just went up, but the engine was in great shape. I had 290,000 miles on it.
When ever the light comes on
    every 3000 miles. i think.
it should be 3,000 miles or every 3 months, if the car has gone a long time without reg oil chenges, then u should have an oil flush done
every 3,000 miles or every 3 months
Every 6 months or 3000 to 5000 miles, depend on the car. Lexus/toyota do every 5000 miles. Other car companys do 3000. I personally do mine every 3000 miles. Oil is like the blood for your motor. When you run out or when it gets to dirty is when stuff starts to break down and fail
I change it every three thousand miles . I know most if not all manufactures state every five thousand miles I have worked on vehicles both Fleet and Personal vehicles I find that they last longer with more frequent oil changes .
i dont know. i would change oil, it is carbon based. it does breakdown in time. take a guess to what? carbon. try running an engine on that
most manufacturers recommend 3000 mi.or 3 months.however if the cars not driven frequantly or is driven mostly on the highway you could probably go to 4 or 5000.also if u use synthetic oil you can go longer.
5000km(3000 miles) oil and filter conventional oil.5000km(3000miles)filter10 thousand kms. oil and filter synthetic oil.Synthetic oil is great for engines that are broken -in.
Your Dad has been lucky. Saab's will run forever if properly maintained, but they (and other manufactures) have issues with oil sludging which clogs the oil pick up screen, starving the engine of necessary lubrication and ultimately causing engine failure.... It should be changed at or before 5K miles using a quality oil and renew the filter (actually the most important part) at each change.
6 months / 12 months - depends on what mileage you do
every 6 months or every 6000 miles is the best time to change it
I would definitely get it checked on a regular basis of 3-4 months- I learned that the hard way and ruined my engine in the process
Realistically, every 5,000 miles is fine. In recent years, automotive, oil change, and oil supply companies have pushed for every 3,000 - 3,500 miles. If the car is driven infrequently, the oil should be changed every 6 months.

Where can I find a company that does oil to gas conversion estimates?

Any HVAC company or Even a good plumbing contractor will be able to help you with this issue.Where can I find a company that does oil to gas conversion estimates?
    I assume you mean heating system . . .

If you have a very old furnace, it might be possible, but if you have a ';newer'; furnace (like, less than 75 years old) you don't simply ';convert it';. Too many issues, heat exchanger, flow rate, flu size, etc, etc, etc. You'll have to replace it. Any local HVAC contractor will do it, be prepared for sticker shock
Heating companies can do this. It usually doesn't cost too much to get an estimate and the whole job is worth it.

Try contact Browns Heating and Cooling if you are in the NJ area.
Another company to look for in NJ is Total Comfort Mechanical.

  • Does anybody know how to get rid of oil stains?

I've got oil stains in my driveway. I've cleaned to oil up and know there is a big oil stain there. My driveway is made of concrete.Does anybody know how to get rid of oil stains?
Most home centers carry concrete cleaners. Read the instructions for the most effective method to use them. With many, you pour a diluted mix on the stain, let it sit, then scrub or use a pressure washer. The stain will be gone. Hope this helps.Does anybody know how to get rid of oil stains?
DO NOT use WD40 as mentioned above, it contains both a solvent and more oil, and would kinda be like pouring gas on a fire to put it out. I've never tried Dawn dish soap, but have used kitty litter, the cheapest plain clay type you can get, with great results. Pour litter on the spot, and grind it into the stain with your foot. The dust absorbs the stain. I've never had to do it more than twice to get even old stains out. good luck.
Nothing gets oil out 100%, but I've used Johnny Cat cat litter. I put it on the oil stain and take a cement brick and grind it into the stain and concrete. Let it sit for a day and sweep it up. The cat litter dust created by grinding will soak up the oil. It's harder than spraying with chemicals, because you are on your hands and knees but I think it gave me better results.
You need an emulsifier first. The sud sing will absorb the oil. Use Tide or any good laundry detergent.

Power spray or garden hose with pointed spray nozzle.

    May take a few tries.

Pour WD-40 on and let it sink in. Then hard spray to finish up.

The stain will be visible but will be a lot better than before.
They dont go away. Short of pouring another layer of concrete their is no way to remove it. The oil soaks in a stains the concrete it's self not just the surface. Thats why shop floors are always stained with oil.
Pour Dawn dishwashing detergent ( original, blue formula), let sit and wash off. Then pour on clay cat litter, rub it in then sweep it up and dispose of.
I also heard that kitty litter will help. Let us know what you used and how it turned out. Best of luck.
try dawn dish soap and scrud
pressure washing. try pouring bleach over the area and scrubbing with a hard bristled brush.

I just watched CNN’s international Channel(3pm EST), breaking the news that oil price spikes again. But the anchor and the reporter assert it is China’s diesel demand contributed to the hike.

Waited a sec ! It is already THIRD time I am hearing CNN’s assertion of China’s diesel demand. The first time was about two weeks ago. What’s going on?

Then, Israel’s-Iran-attack-drill news flashing back-------Which Was Just Happened This Morning ! That “unmistakable signal” is surely an act to have a consequence of oil supply disruption ! Why is it not reported as a oil spiking cause ? !

What is the best way to use olive oil in my hair?

My hair is very dry and I sometimes add a little olive oil to my hands and rub it in, which helps a bit, but when I add it to the rinse water (after washing my hair) I always add either too much, (makes my hair lank) or too little (makes no difference).

What's the best way to use olive oil to make my hair shine? What is the best way to use olive oil in my hair?
Put half a cup of olive oil into an empty plastic bottle and let the bottle sit in a mug or bowl of hot water for about 90 seconds till the oil in the bottle warms up to body temperature.

Rub the oil in gently, going from root to tip and concentrating on the ends of the hair, always smooth it DOWNWARDS to smooth the cuticles of the hair in the right direction to maximise shine.

When the oil is evenly distributed throughout your hair then wrap a warm towel around your head like a turban and go do something else for about 35 minutes.

Rinse and shampoo your hair with a very MILD shampoo, or dilute your usual shampoo with half water then rinse and condition as usual.

If you do this once a week, your hair will remain soft and shiny. My sister is a hairdresser and this is the treatment that she recommends to her clients.

It's a really deep conditioning treatment and well worth the time. If you only do it about once a week it gives a mirror-like shine to the hair and if it seems too lank, then use slightly less oil each time until you get it right. It works wonders! What is the best way to use olive oil in my hair?
you should put olive oil not directly at the roots but a little lower %26amp; especialy at the tips or you can just put it on the tips %26amp; sleep with it on then wen you wake up wash it out %26amp; its super shiny It works really good on my hair especially becaus i straighten it alot:) Report Abuse

check the links below for natural homemade beauty tips to:-- At home Hot oil treatment recipes

    http://geebal.blogspot.com/2007/05/hot-o鈥?/a>
Place a few tablespoons (depending on length) in hot water and massage into hair once warm. Wrap in a towel, and let it sit for 10 miniutes or so. Shampoo twice to get it all out and condition as usual.
Use the olive oil shampoo and conditioner from Regis.
I would put it in the spry bottle and just spray it on evenly!
I think your best bet is to get a really good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, like Redkin Allsoft.

Also, a leave in conditioner or deep conditioner will add moisture as well.

Putting olive oil in your hair is not going to fix the problem... only kind of cover it up. It's actually more likely to just make your hair look dirty or oily.
right before bed, put olive oil (or coconut oil) into the roots and throughout your hair, comb it out to make it even and braid your hair

when you wake up in the morning wash it out, your probably gonnna need to shampoo twice to get it all out and not make it look greasy and smell like oil

keep doing this maybe one to two times a week and youll notice your scalp will be less dry and you hair will be more shiny and definitly more healthier
Use it before you actually wash your hair, not after.
Well.... wat i know (and sometimes do) is keep plenty of olive hair oil on my hair for like a couple of hours (like a hair mask, as a part of damage repair ';program'; for dry hair) then i wash my hair, and then as they are dried, apply a little of some anti-frizz hair cream (for dry hair). Also a good tip is not to straighten your hair (with an iron) right after you dry them with a hairdrier.

If you want your hair to shine, you gotta use some dry hair masks, and after your hair is blow dried you apply some snake hair oil (which is very cheap) and that's how you get the shine. By the way, not only does the snake hair oil give good shine, it also prevents ends from splitting up, three drops is usually all what it takes, and rubbed into the ends, it does not leave your hair looking oily ----it looks all natural.

    Good luck!
i woiuldn't recomend oil... Try a good conditioner and jus use lots. But for olive oil jus a dab the size of a dime for sholder length hair rub in hands first then run hands through hair. (dont press down on top of head completely or all oil will rub off in one spot and do nothing) rub the oil till it covers your hands then bend over so hair is hanging and jus go thro hair.

    Good luck
Get out and buy yourself some olives. Extra virgin are the very best but of course the most expensive. When you bring them home carefully pit them over aluminum foil as to not lose much of the oil. Then just take as many as you think you will need (foil and all), get into the shower and simply squeeze to your hearts content!
Well, to make it work you have to leave the olive on your hair for 20-25 min and then wash it .........do it every day and then you will see the difference ........

    -luck!
I thought olive oil was for getting rid of lice?
Have you tried the vinegar treatment? When you wash your hair rinse out the soap, you put conditioner. When you put conditioner in your hair add a little vinegar (apple cider works best) and let it sit in there for about 3 to 5 minutes and rinse it out. This will even out the chemicals in your scalp and soften your hair and reduce detox the chemicals from medication in your body to reduce that from harming your hair. Any chemical you put in your hair make sure its ALCOHOL FREE. That will dry out your hair as well. Don't use the vinegar in your hair for more than 2 times a month or it will dry out your hair more. As anything else will. This remedy also works great for when you dye your hair as well. It keeps the color longer and it brings out the color making it look more vibrant.

    Good Luck
i used a lot of olive oil, soaking my hair in it and rubbing it down to the tips. leaving it for a while (maybe 20 minutes) and then continue to shampoo and condition as usual. this should make your hair nice and soft. if you feel your hair might become greasy make sure you wash all the oil out with a lot of shampoo.
i would get the whole bottle and dump it on and rub it in real good , the affects are amazing.. it made my hair so shiny and everyone complimented me at school ..
    Shave ur hair off!!!!

Not sure about the wax, but the oil can be removed by putting baking soda on the stain and let it absorb the oil and then put your washing detergent directly on the spot, rinse, let air dry, repeat if necessary. How do you remove leg wax %26amp; baby oil from clothing?
Try goof-off or goo-be-gone (from paint store or home center) or simple green cleaner.
Oil is going to be really hard to get off... Go ahead and try some oxi stain remover.

Or try some goof off or uhm.. maybe even some peroxide... depending on the colour. If they aren't white then it will take out the colour... so only if they're are white use peroxide!

With pastels, you really do get what you pay for. If you use economical or budget priced pastels, they just will not perform the way you want. But you don't have to go all the way to the top, either. The most expensive are the most buttery and soft, and as they go down in price, they have more filler and are firmer. You can begin your work using a firm pastel like NuPastel, and then save your top layers for the softer stuff like Sennelier or Windsor Newton.

Top of the line is Schminke and Unison and more obscure brands of hand rolled pastels. When you know what you want, you can buy just one for a finishing touch. But beware, the softer they are, the more they crumble away on you.

Do not mix oil pastels with soft pastels. Sanded or sueded paper can make a huge difference in your work.

A landscape is always nice. A forest in the background and a wheat field closer up.

Britain in the 1880s with a sweating horse pulling a buggy. The horse swings its head nervously. The blinders are there too. You can't see the driver. The horse is the main concept.

Or a fairy tale concept. Red Riding hood, Rapunzel, Snow White, etc.

A fairy tale except like just a fairy or a unicorn, etc.

A calm farm scene. Farmer sleeping on porch in a rocking chair with his straw hat over his face and a sleeping blood hound next to the chair. You can see partly into the house because the door's slightly ajar. What is a creative idea for my oil pastel contest?

What can i use instead of vegetable oil for french toast?

ok so i want to make some french toast and just realized i have no vegetable oil. i do have olive oil but i dont know if thats just as good. or could i use butter? help! What can i use instead of vegetable oil for french toast?
Butter will work, in fact, I would have used butter first before any kind of oil.

Do not use Olive oil, though it will technically get the work done, your toast will taste like olives, which I can't imagine will be good. What can i use instead of vegetable oil for french toast?
You could use spray PAM, olive oil, butter, margarine. Your choice, each has it's own special flavor. If you have grapeseed oil it is awesome and could also be used. Peanut and sesame oils are also fun.
When I make my french toast, I always use a non-stick pan. If that isn't an option, you could use butter or a little cooking spray.
    Butter
Definitely use butter, it will be sooo good.
    I have always used butter.
butter ... that's all I EVER use for French toast! You WANT that good buttery flavor!
On a non-stick pan, you might not need any oil
cooking spray and/or butter is the only thing i will use for french toast
    I agree, melt some butter.
Well my mom always uses butter but other people use diff. stuff use wht u have.

What is the best way to get oil stains off my drive way?

Tide laundry detergent, your water hose and a scrub brush or shop broom. Wet the spots, generously pour Tide onto them, let them sit a little while, scrub them (add more water if you need to), rinse them. May have to be repeated. What is the best way to get oil stains off my drive way?
Our lawn mower was leaking and gas got all over our black-top driveway and Tide works. It even got out the old stains we had :-) Report Abuse

Use a concentrated washing machine detergent. I saw it work once but Im not really sure how great it will work in your circumstance
yea i would deffinately have to say cat liter..what u do is sprinkle it over the oil let it soak then clean it up and then use some more and rub it into the driveways...works all the time for me
powered tide in a good brush
    Kitty Litter
    Oxiclean!
chalk. color over the stains and put soap over and wash it off.
Paint entire drive way. Make sur to put down a good primer using KILZ driveway a concrete primer so the stains won't bleed through
    power washer..
cat litter. leave it on there for a few hours, and it soaks it right up. Then use a big broom and brush up the litter.
Use gasoline, no joke, it will remove oil or grease from a vehicle, but DO NOT USE ON BLACKTOP - only on concrete. and then use soap and water to spray it off, do not leave it on or it will stain.
Kitty litter is the best first application. Soak up as much as possible and continue till the stain is just a stain and not a wet spot. Then take fresh kitty litter and sprinkle a thin layer over the stain. Take a brick or other heavy object with a large flat surface and set it on the layer of kitty litter. Now take the brick/object and with a slow swirling motion and down force on the kitty litter grind it into a fine powder. Do this as long as you need to soak up 98% of the stain. Then sweep up the kitty litter. For the final clean up put ';Simple Green'; undiluted onto the remnants of the stain and with a stiff broom/brush scrub it vigorously for 10 - 15 minutes and then hose and broom the suds over the entire driveway while rinsing it off.

What is the best way to make Vegetable Manchurian or Gobi Manchurian with as little oil as possible?

Get an oil sprayer (I find the EMSA brand to be the best one.)

Then you spray the cauliflower lightly and roll it in the batter. Bake in the oven.

You may want to spray it a bit more as it bakes.

It will be similar to deep frying, but with a lot less oil. What is the best way to make Vegetable Manchurian or Gobi Manchurian with as little oil as possible?
insted of deep frying u can steam them

or spray some little amount of oil on nonstick pan and fry Manchurian snack from both sides till it turned in brown color

but remember one thing put the Manchurian bolls in gravy while serving

    good luck

How do i get oil stains out of clothes?

I think our washing machine has an oil leak in the drum, and its put dark stains on almost everything i put in it! Is there any way i can get the stains out?How do i get oil stains out of clothes?
Dawn dish washing detergent work on some oil stains but I usually use Simple Green for such stains. Simple Green is a concentrated cleaner that works wonderfully on greasy stuff. You can buy it in a lot of grocery, hardware and automotive stores. Discount stores and some of the big box retailers like Lowe's and Home Depot also sell it. It's also non-toxic and biodegradable. And of course, there is always their web site!

I just give the stains a good spray (it won't bleach out the color) and let the product soak for a couple of hours before washing. Check the stains before you toss the item in the dryer to be sure the stain is gone. Sometimes, it takes a second treatment. How do i get oil stains out of clothes?
Try to pretreat your clothes with some mechanics hand cleaner, called fast orange. It smells great and I have great success in getting oil and grease stains out of clothing with it. For the machine, I would run some very hot water with extra detergent in it, even a few times and then a few extra hot rinses to make sure the oil plus soap is out. you can drill a 6000 foot deep well in 3 weeks. It may take 8 weeks to go 12000 feet and 4 months to 25000 feet deep. drilling isn't the time constraint. Look at some rigs in the link. It make take 3 years to build a rig for the deep water. Once the rig is out in the water, it will drill more than 20 wells and up to 60 wells from one nonmoveable rig.

Go to your state's regulatory department for oil and gas wells and obtain a permit for that well.

Hire a petroleum geologist to check the well and determine its production rate

Once you have that permit and information then find a refinery which will purchase your oil.

How do you cook eggplant without so much oil?

I slice the eggplant, spray a cookie sheet, place the rings of eggplant on the cookie sheet, spray the eggplant and bake it at 500潞, turning it once as it starts to brown. Sometimes I lightly flour the eggplant but not necessary. Just don't let it burn. I learned that from a wonderful Italian restaurant that used to exist in South Seattle, Washington named Italo's - it was a great little restaurant with the candle in the wine bottle on the red checkered tablecloth. I miss that place!!How do you cook eggplant without so much oil?
    OVEN ';FRIED'; EGGPLANT

    1 med. eggplant

    6 tbsp. lo-cal Italian dressing

    6 tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese

    6 tbsp. packaged bread crumbs

Slice and pare eggplant 3/4'; thick. Soak in cold water 10 minutes. Drain and blot on paper towels. Dip in 1. salad dressing 2. cheese 3. crumbs. Put on jelly roll pan (15';) sprayed with Pam or other spray. Bake at 450 degrees for 7 minutes. Turn and bake 5 minutes more. How do you cook eggplant without so much oil?
Well, I either cut my eggplant into circles, about an inch wide, and spray with cooking spray on a baking tray. I put oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper on it, and bake until golden brown.
microwave the daylights out of it first. just plain, no water or oil. when you cook it in your normal recipe, its already partially cooked so no need to keep it in the oil that long.
I like to peel and cube an eggplant and add to prepared sauce - you get all of the flavor without adding any fat or carbs.
my mom usually grills eggplant...it tastes really good grilled. you still need to brush it with oil (and salt and pepper) though, i think.

What can happen if you drive without any oil in gearbox?

I know someone had an accident, they had a new clutch and garage didn't put oil in the gearbox. Few days later he spun his car and crashed into fence.

My mate told me the reason it happened, cause there were no oil in the gearbox and while he was changing the gear round the bend the driveshaft on the left locked up and the tyre burst then the car spun round facing toward the way he came.

He found out there were no oil after the accident and there are no slight of leakage. What can happen if you drive without any oil in gearbox?
you would notice a horrible smell, the gears would overheat and probably weld to the drive train. What can happen if you drive without any oil in gearbox?
That's the dopyest thing I've ever heard, Why would they drain the trans. to put a clutch?. But who changes geard in a turn, so the tire blew, but then the car spun. So where's the cell phone?
You Don't have to put oil in the gearbox when the clutch is changed. The gearbox is removed intact. When was the last time your mate checked the gearbox oil????
the gears will get hot from friction and break or bind.
    Jackanory.

Why would the tyre burst ? you can skid from 100mph to a stop and all that will happen is a flat spot so either the tyre hit something or was faulty

Most front wheel drive cars you have to remove driveshafts to replace clutch, so yes oil is removed and replaced. Although you would have to be incompetent not to refill gearbox.
it wouldnt lock up most older gearboxes dont have oil in them as nobody ever bothers checking that on a service
If there was a catastrophic failure in a car gear box, it is possible but very unlikely for the car to spin out.

The most likely thing that would happen is that the gear box would explode open.

I think this is a bit of an urban legend.

    Ja.
no oil in the gear box would cause the gear box to fail, but not cause the automobile to spin
If there is no lube in the rear end the pinion and gears will lock up causing the drive shaft to break or the tires to skid.

Dry, powder dishwashing detergent sprinkled on the stain.

Then twist your shoe on it over and over and over and over. Work the detergent into the stain very well. It has bleaching action! It may now look good enough to leave alone or you can rinse it with the garden hose.

Two ways after you power wash your driveway, soak it with acetone. If you want it too look like a million bucks then you want to consider painting it with a good one part epoxy paint or floor kit. What is the best way to remove old oil stains from a concrete driveway?
Buy a small bag of kitty litter %26amp; throw onto the stains, then let it set for two days. Then, sweep up the litter %26amp; throw it away. Next, pour some ';dry cement'; on the stains, %26amp; let set for two days. Make sure there is NO rain in the forecast or the cement will harden. Sweep up the dry cement, %26amp; dispose of it properly. It works. It's the dry cement that absorbs the stain %26amp; the kitty litter absorbs the grease.
the best home remedies that I have had luck with were:

on rough finished concrete is to simply poor coca-cola on the stains and let them sit

the mild acid effect will diminish the oil stains

on smooth finished concrete was to drizzle Oil-Dry or Kitty litter and let them soak

then spray the stains with WD-40 and rub with a rag
you have to use a solvent to remove a solvent stain. soap and water wont work.
I know this is not the smartest thing in the world to do, but if it is outside, pour about a half cup of gasoline on it, then put some dirt, sand or whatever on it. Brush the dirt around till the stain is gone. Works like a champ for me and if you have a lawn mower, then you probably have gas handy like I did.

    P.S.

Not good idea to use in large amounts or while smoking.
muratic acid...........will burn it off then rinse with some water from a hose.

What is the best way to clean the oil passages in an engine block?

I have an older vehicle and I need to do an oil change on it, but because the person who had the vehicle before me mounted a cross member across the drain plug, i want to make sure that i get any build up out of the block since i have to pull the engine to get the drain plug off. i don't want to pull the engine, change the oil, and put the engine back just to find out that i need to pull it again to clear the passages. I can't just remove the cross member because it is mounted to the engine mounts. What is the best way to clean the oil passages in an engine block?
you didn't mention whether or not you are disassembling the engine when removed from the vehicle or not. if dissassembling then vat the block at machine shop with all oil galley plugs removed, then take to local carwash and spray directly through all galley holes, then dry throughly with compressed air and reinstall plugs and assemble engine. if not disassembling then marvel mystery oil( which can be purchased almost anywhere that sell lubricants)can be added to the engine oil per directions on the can. i'm 50 years old and this product has been around since i was old enough to know how to read and does do what it says when used accordingly. while i had the engine out you might consider installing a quick drain petcock or relocating your drain plug to another location that is easier to access without having to pull the engine every timeWhat is the best way to clean the oil passages in an engine block?
run marvil mystery oil in it for a few miles before you change the oil. That or something similar. That's the best you can do without taking things apart.
Beware of solvent based products, Eats seals and can damage bearings.

Add Marvel Mystery Oil to a pre-warmed engine added to just and I mean just over the full mark on the dip stick the run engine at about 2000 RPM for a couple of minutes no more then drain while still warm.

here's what you do. if you have an oil change place do the work, specify 4 qts. 10W30 VALVOLINE FULL SYNTHETIC, SEMI SYNTHETIC, or even standard motor oil, 1 qt. DURALUBE (an oil additive which coats all your moving parts in your engine, keeps the oil from breaking down and heating up, and extends the original mfg warrenty an extra 100,000 miles) VERY GOOD STUFF FOR YOUR ENGINE AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT, 1- BOSCH premium oil filter. bosch is, by far, the best filter. once you start using valvoline oil in your engine, stick with valvoline. it's not recommended that you keep switching brands of oils for the same engine. and also, the duralube is to be used every 4 oil changes. this engine will last a lifetime if you do this, and keep up the maintenance of your car. i do need to warn you that this is not a cheap oil change, but isn't your engine worth it? if you purchase the parts yourself, and using the standard valvoline oil (which, btw is ok when using the duralube) its going to be about $3.35/ qt. bosch filter about $6.00 and 1 qt duralube about $20.00/ qtDoes honda have fully synthetic oils? Yes they offer synthetic oil. You should go to an independent place, not the dealer. They will charge you like $40 for an oil change, an independent place charges like $25. Don't believe all the BS they offer with the oil change. It's a bunch of ';inspects';...like inspect tires, inspect fluids. Basically just ';looking'; at your tires and fluids. Ohh big wow. Definitely not worth $20 extra dollars.
Honda does have full synthetic oil. You will pay an additional

$20.00 more on top of the regular oil and filter change price.

I do believe you mean a micro-plane grater. That, the spout for cooking oil and vinegar cruets and much more can be found at most specialty kitchen stores like Kitchen %26amp; Co., Bed Bath and Beyond, Williams-Sonoma, or Sur La Table. How much damage will my car have if I got a extended period without doing a oil change?

I know its suppose to be every 3,000 miles or 3 months but im doing on 5 months now without changing my oil. Should I worry? How long can I go on like this before something happens? and what will that ';soemthing'; be?How much damage will my car have if I got a extended period without doing a oil change?
If is still 3,000 Miles and five months, it should still be OK. I wouldn't worry to much. Just goahead and change it, and don't risk it.How much damage will my car have if I got a extended period without doing a oil change?
Several of the manufacturers have extended their oil change recommendations to 6,000 miles or six months. The improved metallurgy today, much better filters and far better oil formulation have made the 3,000 or 3 months bit a bit archaic. Consumer Reports, a couple of years back, ran a report on the tests they did with a New York, City taxi fleet. Started out with all new engines and ran some at 3,000 mile interval, some at 5,000 and some at 6,000 with everything from expensive synthetic oil down to the cheap generic brand oil. Tore them all down around 80,000 miles and weighed the bearings on a gram scale to determine how much wear had occured. Their findings were no significant differences between the different oils or change intervals.
Going over occasionally will not do much if any harm at all, but continued running of old oil will cause premature wear of all the moving parts in your engine, because the grit and other contaminants are being circulated by the oil pump.

    http://www.nordicgroup.us/oil.htm#How%20鈥?/a>
lots of problems, engine sludge, if you burn too much off, the engine will start to lock up, cracked heads, valve leakage. y r u waiting 5 months???? the damage will be severe and usually catastrophic.
As long as you've been checking to make sure your oil isn't low, you won't suffer immediate major damage. What does happen is that oil collects dirt and becomes acidic, so any extended periods between oil changes will shorten the motors overall life.
Much depends upon the year make and model of your car. As a rule of thumb short stop and go driving is very rough on engines and the oil inside. The poor motor never gets hot enough to drive off condensation and gas leak down from the combustion chambers. These things can seriously dilute the oil and lessen it's ability to properly lubricate and at detergent additives are thinned out so the oil will not keep your motor as clean as it should.

These things are prime examples that cause oil sludging problems. You don't want that to happen. Nowadays most cars call for 5,000 mile oil changes. To me that's stretching things. You could safely get away with it if you used 100% synthetic motor oil. The additive packages are far surperior to regular oil. It flows faster at low temperatures and does not vaporize at high temps.
Its not too bad. Every 3000 miles is actually a little excessive.... Unless you use your car like a madman, its fine to way an extra month or two.

I dont follow any mileage or date recommendations. I just check to make sure if the oil is still clean once in awhile. Once it starts coming out a little darker and dirty, thats when I decide to change it.

On the tub it says take one a day, but i'm just wondering, what would happen if you were to go and swallow more? What would happen if you took more fish oil tablets than directed?
I take 3 per day but that is as directed by a doctor because I have a clogged artery. I don't think it can hurt you, Fish oil is very healthy for many health related problems such as arthritis and heart desease and many more things but you must make sure your taking a good grade fish oil. There are a lot of cheap grades that are dilluted and don't do much if anything for you. My cardoligist suggest I go to this site to buy a top grade fish oil- http://www.nancyshealthnet.com

they also have all holistic products for your pets and household cleaning products all people,Planet and Pet safeWhat would happen if you took more fish oil tablets than directed?
depends how many you are talking about!! im sure a few would do no harm. but maybe theres problems if you take a whole heap. I think most bottles say up to 6 a day is recommended, so anywhere around or even just above may be fine.
nothing realy, for instance iv been taking 6 1000mg of vitamin c which is routhly 10,000% of my recomended daily intake... research it the only one i found to be bad on over dosing for extended periods is vitamin a.
Nothing, if anything you might become healthier.
    ive wondered that too....

i would think that nothing would happen, because its just like eating a whole lotta fish.
anything over 12 will make ur skin a little greasy.
You will turn into a tuna..
you might feel a lil fishy

I made a sauce with too much olive oil. Can I reduce?

I made a tomato based sauce just a bit ago.

I must have added too much olive oil when cooking the garlic, because the sauce is a bit oily now.

Is there any way I can remove, reduce, or minimize the oil?I made a sauce with too much olive oil. Can I reduce?
If the oil rises to the top as the sauce cools, you might be able to skim it off with a spoon or suction if off with a turkey baster. Otherwise, just add more of all the ingredients except olive oil, make a larger pot of sauce, and freeze part of it.I made a sauce with too much olive oil. Can I reduce?
Only thing you can do is strain it, but that is only if it is a chunky sauce. Or, if you have time on your hands, turn the heat down, stop stirring and let the oil separate. Then spoon it out.
try draining it or let it cool and skim the fat off you could add some corn flour it might still be a bit oily but with a bit of luck might be ok

    best of luck
If you refrigerate it, you can skim off the oil on top. You can also try to sop it up with paper towels when it's hot
Don't reduce it, add more! Just put in more of all the ingredients, especially vinegar. Unless you made a gigantic amount it should keep until you finish it, if you put it in a refrigerator.
Chill it. The oil will rise to the top, and will likely harden up a bit. Then you can skim the excess off.
Mark hit the nail on the head! Go with that solution. That is what I would do.
Can't think of the perfect way to do so, but maybe if you have the extra supplies, add to it to make a larger batch? You can freeze the extra for another dish. Or maybe let it sit till the oil comes up to the top and spoon it out, or soak it up as much as you can with a paper towel. good luck!
You can add flour or strain it.

To strain it, take another pot and a strainer and pour the sauce into the strainer. If the sauce is thick enough most of the sauce will stay in the strainer and the oil will flow into the pot below. It might not reduce all of it, but it will certainly help.

    Good Luck
More olive oil the better for me, but here's what I would do if you want to get rid of the excess...

Take a big piece of hard bread or large hard roll and use as a sponge. Turn off the heat, stop stirring, and let the oil rise to the top. Take the bread and just dip it gently in the oil and it will sop it up like a sponge. You may have to use several pieces depending on the amount of oil. That works better for me than skimming.

It will not reduce nor will it harden if refrigerated so sopping or skimming is your only choice, other than adding more ingredients.

I would just stir it in and serve it. Olive oil is heart healthy!
    add flour?
Chilling it and Skim of the Top when cold or just Skim it as cooking...you can't reduce Oil by 'cooking' to Reduce it!
the suggestions to add more of the other ingredients are very good. personally unless you added WAY to much just let it go and make sure to serve bread with the meal to mop up all the yummy sauce and olive oil that is very good for your health anyway
reducing just gets rid of water in the sauce. maybe just add more tomato to the dish.
Let it cool and skim some off.
Olive oil doesn't reduce. Oil doesn't evaporate the way water does.

If you really want to get rid of the oil, turn off the sauce so it stops simmering and the oil rises neatly to the top, then just skim some off with a spoon or sop it up with a paper towel.

Olive oil is great on pasta, Unless you're trying to go really low fat, you can just leave it in the sauce. Give it a good stir before adding it to the pasta. It'll be great.
You could try draining it, the oil should pour out before the sauce does.
    simmer the sauce to reduce

How long does it take to drill for oil in the Gulf?

How long does it take. If you have a valid source that would be great, but if you dont thats okay. How long does it take to drill for oil in the Gulf?
you can drill a 6000 foot deep well in 3 weeks.

Where can I find a micro-plain, and those spouts that you put on a cooking oil bottle?

Like the kind they use on Food Network for olive oil?Where can I find a micro-plain, and those spouts that you put on a cooking oil bottle?
I do believe you mean a micro-plane grater. That, the spout for cooking oil and vinegar cruets and much more can be found at most specialty kitchen stores like Kitchen %26amp; Co., Bed Bath and Beyond, Williams-Sonoma, or Sur La Table. You can also order them online at cooking.com, Amazon.com, or many others.Where can I find a micro-plain, and those spouts that you put on a cooking oil bottle?
I bought my daughter a micro-plane in a kitchen specialty shop and you can probably buy a spout there too.

I have never seen them at Wal-Mart, but you could check. Would be much cheaper.
You can buy both the micro-plane and the spouts at Walmart or Target. If they do not have the micro-plane with the kitchen gadgets try looking with the tools.

I bought my micro-plane at Lowes but, any hardware store should have them. They sure come in handy!

There are a LOT of wires and a LOT of hoses going to that engine which makes it a major pain in the ***. So work it this way:

You know you need to pull the engine because you know you need to pull the pan to replace the gasket and you can't pull the pan with the subframe in the way.

So here's the trick: Use a cherry picker, rent, or borrow one if you don't have one. You can find them cheap and sell them for the same price you bought one for. Hook it up and support the engine using the cherry picker. Now get up under your car and unbolt the motor mounts to the subframe, take out the subframe, it's the frame your engine is setting on, it comes right out with a few bolts. Now drain the oil, remove the pan, scrape the old gasket off precisely, place the new gasket on the pan, put the pan back on, bolt the subframe back in, bolt the engine back to the subframe, disconnect the cherry picker.

When it's all said and done, you spent 1 evening at the most and less than $30. Add the price of the cherry picker and maybe more like $130 but as I said, you can sell it later, or take it back and say it didn't work LOL

The beauty of this is you didn't really disconnect ANY of the wires or hoses to the engine. That takes forever to put those back on.

You can do it, just dig in.

How can I strip latex paint off of something without harming the oil based paint underneath?

I'm restoring an arcade cabinet that has a number of layers of latex paint over it. I started sanding it down, only to find that the bottom layer of paint (oil, as far as I can tell) is the original PacMan paint job. I'd much rather try to uncover this instead of paint over it, so is there any way (mechanical or chemical) to remove just the latex layers while causing as little disturbance to the oil layer as possible? How can I strip latex paint off of something without harming the oil based paint underneath?
Use a heat gun and a plastic putty knife. That should peel the latex paint off easily. Good luck. How can I strip latex paint off of something without harming the oil based paint underneath?
They should never touch eavhother... if someone actually took the time to get it to work(since they repel eachother like oil%26amp;water) then it will be like a rubber skin and not a mechanically bonded paint job. If you spend all day peeling it off, you will still end up with blemish. You'll have to sand the entire surface and perforate it with causing any rises in the surface... and then super coat with the finish you want. Kitchen and bath-use semi-gloss due to water or any room if you have kids so you can clean it easily without blemish. Flat is for color like in a living room or bedroom,... and gloss/oil/acryllic is for water protection and easy cleaning.

Why does the United States consume so much oil in relation to other nations?

The United States accounts for approximately 1/4th of the world's oil consumption. Why do we consume so much more than any other nation in the world? Why does the United States consume so much oil in relation to other nations?
Cheap fuel started it out. When gas went to $4 a gallon consumption dropped by almost 4%.

But here lies are main problems:

Are average vehicle weight is more than 800 lbs heavier than the average european weight and a 1000 lbs over asian. Every 100 lbs of weight in a car decreases fuel mileage by 3%.

We prefer SUV, Vans, Trucks, for everyday driving. Not only are they heavy but they are aerodynamically terrible compared to most cars. Fuel mileage gets horrible at freeway speed because of fuel just to fight air resistance.

We move 90% of our freight by truck and 10% by rail. Trucks (new ones) get about 7 miles per gallon. Trains to move the weight of equivalent freight get about 400 miles per gallon. Europeans move much more freight by trains than us. Asians use smaller trucks, but they also don't buy as much as we do so trucks don't carry as much.

Our roads are very unfriendly to bicycles and motorcycles. Ever see a typical street in China, India, Indonesia? Better than 80 % of the traffic is bicycles and mopeds and 3 wheel trucks. We have taken the berms from most roads, won't let bikes on sidewalks and at every step have discouraged these primary movers.

We light, heat, and air condition are buildings to far higher intensities than any other nation in the world. Walk into any modern building which is usually lots of glass (which is highly energy inefficient). Even if you walk in the bathrooms, there is generally 10-15 fixtures including over the stalls. This light does what? I've gone into classrooms burning 4000 watts of lights in one classroom, even with no one there and sometimes all night long.

We put a red light over every lane of traffic at every intersection, with a minimum of 2 lights for one lane. At a four way intersection this is eight lights. Multiply that times every intersection in the country. That's a lot of wasted power and oil that could be solved with one red light mounted in the middle with lights on each side of it.

Excessive street lighting. Excessive air conditioning. No clothes lines hardly, using hot water to wash clothes with.Gorocery stores that have open coolers for refrigerated products. Excessive glass used in construction instead of insulated panels. No conservation by factories, government, schools, or industry of shutting down utilities, room by room and during off use period. (An empty building at 50 degrees in winter will have no complainers.

The answer in a nutshell, is we got spoiled by cheap energy, and last summer , our pusher upped our price real easy. We cut back a little

but most people don't know how to save and don't want to. They also equate small cars with danger, because they've seen crashes of SUV's into Smart cars. You can't get around physics that's true, but most wrecks are people hitting stationary objects, not head on. And in those collisions, weight doesn't help you at all.

And to be fair in those tests with SUV's running into small cars, they should of run SUV's into Semi-trucks, because in that scenario weight wins also. You can always find someone with a heavier vehicle, bad race to be in from a safety standpoint.

Other countries use less oil because they either don't have the industry to use the oil, or the money to buy vehicles or the price of their fuel has been high long enough that conservation sunk into them long ago.

Speaking of GDP --the world GDP is $69.49 trillion. United States GDP is $14.29 trillion. So we are about 1/5 th the GDP of the world if you want to believe the heavily slanted CIA.GOV website. And also according to the same website, the world produces 85.54 million bbl/day of oil , which United States consumes 20.68 million., which means we consume 24.2% of the worlds oil.

There is 6,790,062,216 people in the world and 307,212,123 Americans. That means we are 4.5% of the world's population but consume 24.2% of the oil. We definitely could do better with easy conservation and getting our vehicle weight down a lot and utilizing trains a lot more and making buildings utilize same efficiency standards we require of new homesWhy does the United States consume so much oil in relation to other nations?
Some of the above answers get at the correct answer. Most basically it is because the U.S. also represents 1/4th of the entire world economy, which is only possible because we consume energy commensurately.

And both of those facts are true because the U.S. has by far the greatest population among *developed* nations. Aside from China, the U.S. has from 2.5 to 10 times more population than any of the other top-10 leading economies, so of course we use more oil. Only China and India have larger populations than the U.S., and both are far behind the U.S. in economic development. However it is extremely likely that China's oil consumption will surpass that of the U.S. at some point in coming decades.

Further, the U.S. uses more oil on a per-capita basis largely as a circumstance of our large landmass and sparse population density. That means people often live far away from where they work and shop, and so do lots more driving than is the custom in most other countries. Also with a relatively low population density, mass transit is not very economically feasible in most of the U.S., whereas it is common in Europe, Japan, and Chinese cities. (Even after another century of population growth, the U.S. population density in 2100 will be less than Europe's is TODAY.)

Darth hits some other good points above.
USA: Hummer, Range Rover, Land Rover, 18 Wheelers

    Asia: Bicycles, motor bikes, Toyota's

    Canada: perma frost

    europe: public transport, trains

oh and all that energy consumption, having 5 PC's 3 TV's and 2 Xbox's going at the same time with all the lights on. and using a clothes dryer in the summer while your AC is on...
B/c US is larger than any other developed country, both in terms of population and land area.

Per-capita consumption of oil is higher than Europe b/c of larger cars, longer commutes, and more extreme climate that requires both air conditioning and heating.
Because industrially, we are about half a century ahead of most developing countries. But they are catching up quickly. We will very soon be surpassed by countries that have greater populations than us.
Because we produce about 1/4 of the world's GDP.
    We're more ';advanced';.
    Because we can.
    we travel all the time

Is it possible to fix wrinkles in a oil canvas painting?

I have recently aquired a beautiful (but very large) oil painting. The upper right hand corner is wrinkled just under the frame. You cannot see the wrinkle by day but at night when the gallery lighting shines down on the canvas it is VERY noticeable. I would love to repair it on my own but do not know how to stretch the canvas. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is it possible to fix wrinkles in a oil canvas painting?
My wife and I are picture framers. We would take the canvas off of the stretcher and mount it to foamcore using a vacuseal machine WITHOUT heat. The machine removes 28 pounds of pressure out of the machine which sucks the canvas down and the acid free adhesive bonds it down. The wrinkles will be gone. An experienced framer can do that for you.Is it possible to fix wrinkles in a oil canvas painting?
Try spraying the back o the canvas with water, this usually will make a painting tighter. There are also this widgets you can get at art supply store and you can vedge them in the corners of the stretcher bar.

    good luck

How do I remove white spots from an oil painting? Are these moulds, and how to prevent in future? ?

Could this be caused by warmth and humidity in Singapore where I live? I also have some light brown spots on my watercolor paintings. Would appreciate any advice on how to remove these spots safely, and how to prevent reoccurrence. ThanksHow do I remove white spots from an oil painting? Are these moulds, and how to prevent in future? ?
The oil painting surface should be tough enough to clean with mild soapy water and soft cloth. Rinse with clear water, dry and seal with Damar varnish. Check the back side of the canvas too. If the spots are there in the same places as on the front, it would be more difficult to eliminate the mold and protect the painting. I don't know how you would do that.

The watercolor is a different story. There is really no way to fix those unless you are a trained conservator. Brown spots sound more like non-archival material (not acid free) was used to frame the paintings.

Prevention would require framing with acid fee mats and backing board and under glass with acid free paper seal over the back. If the pieces are not framed, seal them in archival plastic sleeves and store flat.

    Good luck!

Is there a safer way to test an oil fired furnace ignition transformer.?

Is there a reliable ohm meter reading you can use.Is there a safer way to test an oil fired furnace ignition transformer.?
It's not safe but I use a well insulated screwdriver and see if a spark will jump across the contacts. It should jump between 3/4- 1 1/2';. There are signs of a bad transformer. one is that the furnace will go thump, thump, thump, thump very rapidly when it shuts off. I have had brand new transformers be bad also.Is there a safer way to test an oil fired furnace ignition transformer.?
You could check for an obvious fault such as open circuit but unless you knew what the resistance should be, it wouldn't help. Even then, its not a conclusive test.

Why not just power it up and keep your fingers clear?
I test them with a screwdriver across the terminals and see how far the spark will go. The test out electrically ok, but don't carry a good spark sometimes.

What if I use gear oil instead of transmission fluid for my transfer case in my truck?

The transfer case I have is either a New Process 241 or a New Venture NV241.

Would it hurt or help the transfer case if I used gear oil instead of transmission fluid?

It's a 1991 Z71.What if I use gear oil instead of transmission fluid for my transfer case in my truck?
That transfer case was designed for ATF. You're transfer case will overheat and fail. They designed it to run off of ATF for a reason and if it uses it then it's not to be changed as gear oil is MUCH thicker. What if I use gear oil instead of transmission fluid for my transfer case in my truck?
Why would you want to do that? They were designed to use ATF, gear oil is much thicker. I did hear that you could use 10w30, although I wouldn't try that, either, since there's no point in doing so.
gear oil can really mess up the pump in that gear box, along with mess with your fuel economy. if it leaks solve the problem do not delay it.
yea will cause it to fail......its designed to run on the thinner trans fluid ...putting gear oil in will make it over heat and blow seals and fail
If it takes ATF , yes it will hurt and vice versa . Need to find out what is in it now !

What size bolts do I need for my oil pan on a 1993 Ford Escort Wagon 1.9 engine?

my answer is try to check it out on the auto repair shop.....they are tell you what size of the boltWhat size bolts do I need for my oil pan on a 1993 Ford Escort Wagon 1.9 engine?
My best suggestion is go to your nearest Ford dealer to the Service Dept. They will be able to tell you what size, and order them for you. You might pay a little more for them. Also, I'd count how many bolts you see. Ask the Service Dept. how many are supposed to be on your vehicle. I'm saying this because of two reasons. One: That oil pan may fit more than one engine, and has holes but no bolts. Two: I think you may have a bad seal, and that may be what is leaking. Good Luck!

  • Is it okay to blot your face with oil blotting papers before putting on your makeup?

I was considering doing it for now on before I put on my foundation and everything. But I don't know. And I was going to use some shine free mouisterizer too. If its okay, would I put on my mouisterizer before or after blotting? Is it okay to blot your face with oil blotting papers before putting on your makeup?
first wash your face with shine controle wash (bore has some) then get shine controle moisterizer. apply shine controle foundation and dont forget the translucent powder. its the key to absorbing extra oil later on. bring oil blotting papers with you to say, school. and yes you can use it over make up. it wont leave anything behind or take anything off = ) hope this helped. %26lt;3QIs it okay to blot your face with oil blotting papers before putting on your makeup?
i use facial powder instead of blotter after i put on my moisturizer. that way my make up will last longer because it absorbs the excess moisture from sweat/oily skin.

i'll use the blotter when im out and about.
blot, then use the shine free cream. that's very good. after i sweat sometimes i use the blotting papers. they are very good. :)
you can do before or after
If you tend to be oily before applying your makeup then yes. It really doesn't hurt anything unless there is powder on the blotters, then it may affect any liquid product you are applying.
I would blot before I put the shine free moisutrizer on. A primer works really well after you use your moisturizer, and it helps control shine more. It also helps your makeup go on smoother.
if you wash your face before you put on your makeup you shouldn't need to blot before.

definitely use the shine free moisturizer first, then the make up.

and most blotting papers won't harm makeup so you can do it later in the day when you do get oily. i don't think you'll need to use th blotting papers right after your makeup.
your face should be shine free after you wash and moisturized before you put on any makeup.
I would say YES it is OK, but it is better to start with just washed skin.

What was the impact of the 1970's oil embargos on the US Economy and on American citizens?

What steps were taken by the government to alleviate the crisis? Which actions were effective and which were not? What was the impact of the 1970's oil embargos on the US Economy and on American citizens?
There was a crisis in 1973 and again in 1979. There was stagflation. You could only buy gas on certain days here. It depended on your license plate #. The speed limits were reduced. I believe Pres. Nixon wanted to institute price controls but Congress didn't go along. At some time during the early 70s, the gold standard was removed. Jimmy Carter, well he didn't do anything but give the Panama Canal away. The election of Ronald Reagan fixed the Carter problem.

I guess more oil production and more gas efficient vehicles were the answer. What was the impact of the 1970's oil embargos on the US Economy and on American citizens?
I remember that the federal government imposed a national highway speed limit of 55 mph. There were gasoline shortages and long lines at gas stations. Another thing the government did was to form the strategic reserve which is a reserve of oil stored away in case of a national emergency. Originally it was suppopsed to be a 30 day suply, but I think it was increases to a 60 day supply.

What is the best car and method for converting a diesel car to run on vegetable oil?

I drive a big suv and would have been begging my husband for years to get me a ';veggie';. I have three children I haul everywhere so it has to be at least 4 doors, don't want the expense of a new/hybrid car. What are the pros/cons of buying on older diesel car like a mercedes and converting it to run on vegetable oil? What is the best car and method for converting a diesel car to run on vegetable oil?
Any diesel can be converted, but none are currently manufactured that way. The vehicle and fueling consumer markets are really stacked against you on this one.

Pros: You will have your veggie car.

Cons: You will have no warranty and refueling will be tricky. You will have to set up a filtering system and fueling nozzle in your yard, because no gas stations have the veggie fuel. You will not be taking it on a road trip, unless you pull a trailer of vegetable oil with you. Finally if the car breaks very far away from your conversion mechanic, you will be on your own to fix it because only a few competent car people in the world get into the veggie fuel thing. None of this is fun with a car full of kids (I have 5 myself).

Not what you want to hear, I know. But the big SUV sure is convenient, ain't it?What is the best car and method for converting a diesel car to run on vegetable oil?
basically what some people are doing is making BIO diesel, I don't know exactly how it's made but no modifications are needed on the motor and it cost around $1 a gallon to make you'll have to research to find out how.
Replace all of the rubber hoses that the fuel will pass through. Biodiesel is a strong solvent. Other than that, you engine should be ready to burn the stuff. But your fuel needs to be clean.
as long as its a diesel it should be ok i have a Mercedes i drive my car about 1 mile then flip a switch and run on vegetable oil all day and deliver pizzas i get my oil from 3 restaurants 2 of them leave the oil for me and i go to another restaurants and take oil from a bin they have out back i pour it in a filter then put it in a big pot and heat it up to get what little water might be in it then poor it in my tank in my trunk

What do you have to add to cooking oil if you are going to run your car on it?

I know you can use old cooking oil to run a diesel car, but i can't remeber what you have to add before you put it in the fuel tank! What do you have to add to cooking oil if you are going to run your car on it?
It depends on the engine, the latest common rail diesels won't like it however older type engines are fine my 4 x 4 is fitted with a pre heater to thin the oil prior to it being used I therefore can run 100% on veggie oil. However don't forget that you must register with C%26amp;E as you have to pay duty on what you use, if dipped you will lose your car and face a hefty fine. However the good news is that C%26amp;E are looking at the possibility of removing this requirement if you use less than 2500 litres a year, this should happen by this summer fingers crossed. The www.pocuk.co.uk site has some information on this on their Bio fuel forum. What do you have to add to cooking oil if you are going to run your car on it?
You have to mix it with methanol I think. And let it stand for a number of days. My brother in law used to run his car on it and I think it was Methanol he used.
    Basalmic vinegar
You have to filter it and add 50ml of acetone per litre..
Some cars can run on Straight Vegetable Oil (SVO) without any additives. Some cars may need in-line fuel heaters.

When I had a diesel 4x4, I used a 50/50 mix of diesel and SVO.
you need to mix it with methanoll. but if you using old cooking oill you need to remove any water in it first by boilling it. then strain it to get any fine bits out or your car wont go anywhere!

your will also need to pre heat the oil in the tank on cold days it will be thicker and wont reach the engine. and register with hm customs or you will get a huge fine and keep records
hi there this site should tell you ll you need to know

    Gas?
avoid starting cold engine on high % veg oil. On long journeys its fine, just put diesel in at the end.
    Your crazy!
    fish and chips
    talk to a mechanic....sounds fishy.
Food colouring, if you get stopped and the oil is checked and it is not the correct colour Customs %26amp; Excise will do you for the tax you have not paid. Not sure what colour, cochineal would do it.

http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/Fil鈥?/a>What oil filter should i get for my motorcycle?
Personally, I have been using oil filters made by K%26amp;N, yes the air filter people. The best thing about them is that they have a 17mm nut made right on the end of them so they are extremely easy to get on and off.

Unfortunately they cost a little more, most any bike shop can order one for you. Visit their website to find out which number you need.
If you do not have a motorcycle dealership near you, enter the info of your motorcycle in Google and it is possible to order on line, or have it shipped/delivered to you.
There could be a car filter that fits on your bike BUT DO USE IT. they are made for cars not bikes . They are different.

What oil resource did we exploit before before we began harvesting underground liquid hydrocarbons?

And, what happened to that particular resource base to which I refer? What oil resource did we exploit before before we began harvesting underground liquid hydrocarbons?
That would be whale oil, and to this day in certain countries whales are still being used for oil.

Fortunately for the whales most countries use fossil fuels and oils. What oil resource did we exploit before before we began harvesting underground liquid hydrocarbons?
We used coal. And we still do but not to as much extent as before oil became plentiful.
    Whales

    They learned to hide.
    whale oil
    we didn't EXPLOIT any.

Do we exploit wheat by making bread?
They burned cow chips, didn't they?

  • How do i cook egg whites without any oil/grease and NOT make the base stick/burn?

I have a non-stick pan but even with one when i cook egg whites only it always sticks and is a hassle to try and cook. Is there a method to cooking egg whites without grease so as to not make it stick? How do i cook egg whites without any oil/grease and NOT make the base stick/burn?
you can always boil the egg and the take out the yolk =)How do i cook egg whites without any oil/grease and NOT make the base stick/burn?
pam is a great alternative to using fatty oils or butter. However if you dont have any, just make sure that you are lifting the side of the egg while you are cooking it with a non stick heat proof plastic spatula. Metal tends to stick. As long as you continue to lift the egg whites without letting them cook for long periods of time you should be good.

Highly recommend the pam though. I make an egg white only omelet every morning and have never had a problem
I was going to suggest poaching, and that would work for a whole egg, but other than that, try the Pam that others have suggested
You can put water and get it boiling and then cook the egg whites.
    Use some butter or margarine.
    PAM.
